Wired Magazine Layout
Location
Merrimack College, North Andover, MA
Role
Student Designer
This project focuses on designing a feature layout for a WIRED magazine article. Given full creative direction, I develop a composition that aligns with the publication’s bold, modern visual style while maintaining clarity and readability.
I begin by analyzing WIRED’s established design language, paying close attention to typography, grid structure, and the integration of imagery. Using this research as a foundation, I create initial layout concepts that balance dynamic visuals with structured text placement. I incorporate a light yellow background to establish visual cohesion with the cover, ensuring a seamless connection between the exterior and interior of the magazine.
Throughout the process, I experiment with hierarchy, scale, and spacing to guide the reader’s eye and emphasize key information. I refine the placement of images and text to maintain a clean yet engaging composition, consistent with editorial design standards.
The project is developed using Procreate for visual elements and Adobe InDesign for layout execution. This workflow allows for flexibility in image creation while ensuring precision in typography and grid alignment. Overall, the final design reflects a thoughtful balance between creative expression and adherence to WIRED’s recognizable aesthetic.
